reconciling with the past

In the past week and a half I have finished three unbelievably amazing books: The Glass Castle, by Jeanette Walls, Where the Crawdads Sing, by Delia Owens, and Educated, by Tara Westover. In these books, I related immensely to the narrative brought about when these women were trying to fight for control of their own lives. Though each of their specific cases was different, there was one underlying vein; each woman had an abusive father who took away each of their powers. It had me thinking back to when I felt so hopeless and trapped against the constant mental, verbal and emotional abuse dealt to me by the hands of my father when I was young. Though I am much stronger now, I still look back at much of my past with anger. To try and truly reconcile with the past takes effort, and I do not see it happening for awhile.
